Medication In School

To assure the safety of our students while in school and to comply with New York State Law, no medications are allowed in school without a healthcare provider’s order, this includes prescriptions and over-the-counter medications; including Tylenol, ibuprofen, antacids, topical ointments and any other similar products. If your child has a condition which requires the administration of any medication during the school day we will gladly cooperate with you and your healthcare provider if you submit the following:

1.  A healthcare provider’s order indicating the name of the medication, dosage, time of administration, and how the medication is to be given.

  • a.  If the order states the student can self-carry/administer medication, the provider must sign an attestation permission form.

2.  Permission from parent/guardian.

3.  Medication must be brought to the school’s health office by the parent/guardian.

  • a.  Medication must be in the original container. This includes both prescription and over the counter medicines.

4.  Medication(s) must be picked up from the school’s health office by the parent/guardian at the end of the school year.

**A new healthcare provider’s order must be obtained each school year.
