2025 Water Testing at WCS
In 2016 New York State became the first in the nation to require schools to test all water outlets currently or potentially used for drinking or cooking purposes for lead levels. Additonal testing was required between the 2023-25 school years.
In accordance with the law, the Worcester Central School District had water samples collected throughout the building. The samples have been sent and analyzed by a state-approved laboratory and the district received results on May 20, 2025.
Testing Results
According to New York state, if the lead level from a tested water outlet exceeds the action level of 5 parts per billion (ppb), the district is required to take immediate action.
The school district must notify staff and all parents and guardians of the results of these tests and any additional actions regarding water testing or remediation that may be necessary. At all times, WCS will ensure that all students and staff have an adequate supply of water for drinking and cooking.
On April 25, 2025, 25 samples were collected and throughout building and the recent results indicate readings above the action level of 5 parts per billion (ppb):
- Room 132 L Sink- had an action level of 7.6 ppb
On April 24, 2026, additional samples of Room 132 L Sink, which had been taken out of service, were collected and we are happy to report the result was below the action level of 5 parts per billion (ppb).
