General Information:

What is CSE and CPSE?

The Committee on Special Education (CSE) and the Committee on Preschool Education (CPSE) determine whether a child is eligible for special education programs and services based on evaluations.  If a disability is determined, the committee develops an (IEP) Individualized Educational Plan which outlines how the child will have access to the general education but at the same time meeting his or her individual needs in the least restrictive environment.

What is a 504 Accommodation Plan?

A multidisciplinary team determines whether the child has a physical or mental disability that substantially limits a major life activity.  If determined by the team, a 504 Accommodation Plan is developed to determine those accommodations or modifications which are necessary for the child to have access to general education.

What Special Education programs are offered in Worcester?

A continuum of special education services are offered to meet the needs of students with a disability.

*Consultant Teacher- A Special Education teacher works directly with the child in the general education classroom to support his/her individual needs.

*Resource Room- A Special Education teacher delivers specialized supplementary instruction to the child working on specific goals outlined in their IEP.

*Self Contained Class- A Special Education teacher delivers the primary specialized instruction to the child.

*Related Services- Related Service providers are those providers such as the Speech Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, Hearing Impaired Teacher, and Counselor who deliver developmental, corrective or supportive services to assist the child with a disability.

What do I do if I suspect my child has a disability?

First speak with your child’s teacher of your concerns. They will assist you with your next steps and discuss different ways your child may be supported.
