4-1-2020 Important Updates!

April 1, 2020

Dear Worcester Students and Families,

I hope this update finds you healthy and safe. Our goal is to provide you with ongoing information as we learn of it. So here are some recent updates:

  • Learning over break: Governor Cuomo issued an executive order closing schools until at least April 15th. As part of this order schools are required to provide continuity of instruction, meal plans for students and childcare resources.

This week we received further clarification from the NYS Education Department on the continuity of instruction. That guidance requires that all schools will provide the continuity of instruction, including days during previously scheduled spring breaks.

  • Returning to school on April 15th: If the closure is not extended, we will return to school on Wednesday, April 15th. However, the president has extended social distancing until April 30, 2020. This leads us to believe that the return to school may be extended at some point. We will continue to monitor all available guidance and directives and keep you informed if this changes in New York State.

  • Need the internet?: We have it! The school “WCS Guest” wifi is now open to those who may want to visit our parking lot and access the internet. Please remember our playing fields, basketball courts and playgrounds remain closed. Students and families should not congregate in accordance with the Governor’s order.

  • Staff on parade: This Friday our staff will be parading, via car and recognizing all social distancing, through the district! We will be leaving the bus garage at 1:00 p.m. to come by and see our students (from a distance) who we miss so much! Parade routes will be posted on Facebook and at worcestercs.org soon.

Also, please visit our website for continued updates!

Again, on behalf of all the staff at WCS, we thank you all for your continued patience, understanding and support. We recognize that this is a very stressful and challenging situation. We know that you are managing many personal and professional responsibilities, and we are here to support you as best we can.  We hope you and your families remain safe and healthy!

Respectfully,

Tim Gonzales

Superintendent
