Superintendent's Message 5-13-2022

Good afternoon Worcester Families,

I hope you are all enjoying this beautiful late spring weather that has finally arrived.  As we head into the end of the school year, I wanted to share some important reminders and dates.

Budget Vote and Election
Tuesday, May 17, 2022, WCS will hold our annual budget vote and board member election in the WCS Library from 12 p.m. (noon) to 8 p.m. The proposed budget carries a 1.6% increase in spending, and includes using $685,000 of the District’s fund balance to keep the tax levy increase to 1.23% which is below the District’s state-calculated tax cap. This year voters will also vote on whether WCS should open a new Capital Reserve Fund. This fund is like a savings account that allows WCS to set aside money for future construction projects or major purchases. There is no tax increase to opening the Capital Reserve Fund. Opening the fund and making any purchases using the money from the fund requires voter approval. For more information on the WCS Budget, the Capital Reserve Fund and candidate Tanya Shalor running for reelection to the Board, please see our Budget Newsletter.

Early Release Next Week
Wednesday, May 18, 2022, all students will release at 12:15 p.m. so that the WCS teachers can participate in professional development activities.

COVID-19
As we are experiencing a few more cases of students and staff testing positive for COVID-19, as a reminder, please monitor your child for symptoms and keep them home if they are not feeling well. At home tests are still available in the main office, as well as with our school nurse Mrs. Zaengle.  Please stop by the main office or contact Mrs. Zaengle at 607-397-8785 ext. 126 for more information.

Dear Worcester Families,

This week, as part of Teacher Appreciation Week, we recognized and honored our teachers and school staff for all the tremendous contributions they make to the Worcester Central School District. Over the past two years of experiencing so many unique challenges, our teachers and staff have demonstrated time and time again, their unwavering commitment to our students and our school.

I am extremely proud to work alongside such a devoted group of individuals. They are the reason for our WCS students’ continued well-being and success.  I hope you will please join me in expressing your appreciation to our fantastic teachers and staff for the great work they do every day.

As always, I thank you for your continued partnership and support.

Respectfully,

Dear Worcester Families,

We hoped to avoid any more winter weather, but mother nature obviously had other plans this week. As a result, we will have to adjust our unused snow days that were recently changed to vacation days.

The remaining unused snow days for the 2021-2022 school year are below. Please note the change to Tuesday, May 31st which will now be a regular school day due to this week’s closure.

•   Friday, April 29, 2022 (no school)

•   Friday, May 27, 2022 (no school)

•   Tuesday, May 31, 2022 (is now a regular school day)

It is important to note that if we must close for another snow or other emergency situation, we will remove the additional day(s) from the list above as needed. We will be sure to communicate any changes should that become necessary.

Also, upon returning from the Spring Recess, we have seen a several COVID-19 positive cases among students and staff. As a reminder, please keep your child home if they show any symptoms of illness. COVID-19 tests are still available in the main office for any student who would like a test.

I thank you again for your continued partnership and support. We look forward to a great finish to the school year with our students!

Respectfully,

Tim Gonzales
Superintendent

Dear Worcester Families,

It is hard to believe we are already at Spring Vacation! I wish all of our students and families a very safe and relaxing time in the upcoming week. As we head into the break, I want to share my gratitude to our students, parents and guardians who joined us this week at our Spring Open House, Musical Cabaret and 2022 Senior Class circus fundraiser. Having these unrestricted, in-person events is such a great step back to our normal school year.

I also want to remind you that Monday, April 18th is an additional vacation day due to our unused snow emergency days. In addition, if you would like COVID-19 at-home tests for your child please stop in our main office this week. Tests will be available from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day, however, we will be closed on Friday (4/15) for the Good Friday Holiday.

I thank you again for your continued support and partnership. We look forward to seeing our students return after the break and will continue to provide them the best educational experience as we finish the school year. Once again, enjoy the Spring Vacation!

Respectfully,

Tim Gonzales
