Merger Vote Passes
Merger Vote Passes in Both Districts
In a straw poll on Wednesday, residents of the Schenevus and Worcester central school districts approved a proposal to combine the two districts into a single district by annexation merger. Vote totals were 327 in favor, 140 opposed in Worcester and 339 in favor, 223 opposed in Schenevus.

The passage of the straw poll allows the merger process to move forward to a binding referendum on Dec. 1, 2021, pending state approval, with voting taking place at both school buildings. If the December vote is also positive, the annexation merger will be official, with the merged district to begin operation July 1, 2022, with the Worcester superintendent and school board remaining in place. It is expected that there will be a vote to decide if the current Worcester school board will remain at 5 or increase to 7 members as of July 1, 2022.

We want to thank all the voters who came out to weigh in on this very important issue and share their feedback in an exit survey. More information will be shared in the days and weeks to come as we move toward the binding referendum vote in December.
