Water Testing
2020 Water Testing at WCS
In 2016 New York State became the first in the nation to require schools to test all water outlets currently or potentially used for drinking or cooking purposes for lead levels. A second round of testing was required in the year 2020. In accordance with the law, the Worcester Central School District had water samples collected throughout the building. The samples have been sent and analyzed by a state-approved laboratory and the district received results on January 4, 2020.

Testing Results
According to New York state, if the lead level from a tested water outlet exceeds the action level of 15 parts per billion (ppb), the district is required to take immediate action. The school district must notify staff and all parents and guardians of the results of these tests and any additional actions regarding water testing or remediation that may be necessary. At all times, WCS will ensure that all students and staff have an adequate supply of water for drinking and cooking.

On December 3, 2020, 66 samples were collected throughout building and the recent results indicate two readings above the action level of 15 parts per billion (ppb):
  • Basement Sink had an action level of 36.3 ppb
  • Room 127 Sink-North had an action level of 20.2 ppb
