Polls are open at Worcester Central School from noon to 8 p.m. today for the merger vote. All qualified voters (district residents 18 and older who have lived in the district for 30 days or more) can cast ballots on the following proposal:
Should the Schenevus Central School District and the Worcester Central School District be combined as a single district by annexation merger?
Voting on the same proposition will also take place at Schenevus Central School, by Schenevus residents.
Today's vote is an advisory referendum, or "straw vote." The purpose of the vote is to determine if there is support for the merger in both communities. If the measure passes in both Schenevus and Worcester, a binding referendum will be held in December 2021. If the December vote passes, the districts will merge.
All residents, including voters, are invited to complete an exit survey about the merger vote. Paper copies will be available at the polls. An online version of the survey is also available. The survey will close on Thursday, Sept. 23.
