Good Evening Worcester School Community,
I wanted to provide you with an update on the annexation merger and Schenevus’ second merger vote. The results from this evening's vote in Schenevus were: 472 ‘no’ votes to 213 ‘yes’ votes (6 ballots were voided). Those results mean that the annexation merger will not happen and the districts will remain independent.
Rest assured, the Worcester Central School District (WSCD) will continue in our very positive direction. While merging would have provided definite short-term and long-term advantages, we have absolutely no financial or academic reason where we must merge with another school district.
Moving forward, we will continue to provide the highest quality of education to your children. We will continue to be innovative and creative to provide our students with challenging and rewarding educational opportunities and activities. We will focus on our upcoming building project that will enhance, and properly maintain, our facilities for many future generations of WCSD students.
In closing, I am very grateful to everyone in our school community who participated throughout this process, shared their feedback, asked great questions, and voted last year. I would like to particularly thank the members of our Merger Study Committee, and the WCSD Board of Education for their time and commitment. It is with great Wolverine Pride that we will continue to keep Worcester an amazing place for our students!
Respectfully,
Tim Gonzales
Superintendent
