March 16, 2020
Worcester Parents and Guardians,
behalf of all our teachers I would like to say thank you for picking up your
student activity packets on Sunday. At the end of the day there were only 2
packets left. As educators, knowing that you value continued educational
opportunities validates all the hard work of our teachers and is a tremendous
compliment. So again, we thank you!
As you know,
the COVID-19 situation has been changing very rapidly. I have a very important
update to share regarding information we have recently obtained. Yesterday,
David Bliss, Otsego County Board Chairman issued a 30-day State of Emergency
Order. After further conversation with Mr. Bliss and the Otsego County
Department of Health, we have learned that the school closure recommendation
will be extended beyond the original 14 days. In accordance with the recent
Otsego County State of Emergency Order and Department of Health recommendation,
all Otsego County school districts, as well as the Otsego Northern Catskills
BOCES, have unanimously agreed to extend school closures through Monday, April
13, 2020. As a result, Worcester Central School classes will now resume on
Tuesday, April 14, 2020.
It is also important to share that canceling classes through April 13th could result in the loss of the district’s remaining emergency closing (snow) days, in addition to scheduled vacation time. We are actively working with the NYS Education Department to determine exactly how the extended closure will impact the school calendar for the remainder of the academic year. We will share more information as soon as it becomes available, so please continue to visit our district website and Facebook page for future updates.
These are very trying times and we are in extremely unchartered territory. We thank you for your continued patience and support. Should you have questions, I am happy to help answer them with the current information available. I can be reached at [email protected]
On behalf of
all of us at Worcester Central School, we wish you the best of health and calm during
these uncertain times.
